The holiday that wasn't

My family just left, they were here for the Christmas holiday, and while it was so great to see them, my mom and dad got extremely sick and were bedridden the last half of their stay.. Such a bummer! So instead of going out to a nice stake dinner, dressed up festive, we ordered pizza and watched a horror movie on Christmas Eve... Not tradition, but redbox was out of every Xmas movie and we had to make do with our circumstances... At least we were all together, still in somewhat good spirits... While my parents were still alive and kicking, we did a lot of fun things here on the island.  We surfed Waikiki which was hilarious, my dad almost got pounded out in the water cuz some old china man was mad that my dad was trying to catch his 1 1/2 foot wave.. We did a lot of touristy stuff like hiked Wiamea falls, kayaked Kailua, and ate pineapple soft serve at the Dole plantation.  My family is nuts, the whole time it was loud and chaotic, but now that their gone I would do anything to have them back... But I'm excited to start this New Year, I have a feeling 2012 has many great things to come, lots of success and travels, a wedding (or 2), and the unknown journey that awaits excites me!  I wish everyone a happy and HEALTHY New Year.  You don't realize how important your health is until it's gone..Remember to always give thanks and appreciate your life, because it always could be worse. It's good to put things in perspective often and realize petty stuff is irrelevant. My love, respect, appreciation, and alohas go out to all my adored family and friends.. Hope to see you all on the island in the New Year! xxoo

Give Thanks!!

Yesterday I had such a great Thanksgiving with awesome people.. My day started with a bottle of champagne on the beach at Pipe, with my lovely friend Kalena, who when we get drunk is called Colleen.. We were talking about how thankful we are to be in Hawaii, and how blessed we were to be sitting on the beach in 80 degree weather, happy and healthy.. We laughed non-stop then went and joined my other awesome friend Jayne for Thanksgiving dinner.. It was so delish, I had 2 huge plates of the yummiest food, and then past out hard! haha.. I try and give thanks each and every day, and although Thanksgiving is a day dedicated to that, I think it's important to thank God for all the things we have in life on the regular.. I am grateful for what I have, the people in my life, my amazing family and friends, and living the life in Hawaii!  Having gratitude in your heart always, makes you happy, less stressed and able to always look at situations with a positive attitude.. I hope all you turkeys had a wonderful Tgiving with loved ones and heaps of food! Definitely missed my family yesterday, but get to see then in a few weeks! Stoked! Can't wait to show them what I fall in love with each day! Love to all my Ohana, Aloha!!!

Halloween Is in the air :)

I fall more in love with Hawaii every day, especially now that I HAVE MY CAR!! It arrived a few days ago, and I have never been more excited to see that red p.o.s.  It makes you so grateful to have a set of wheels, although a part of me will miss my bus days.  I loved how every time buses pass each other, the drivers always wave or give a shaka to one another; every single time (I love little things like that).  But Halloween and surf comps are in the air.. I went to Wal-Mart the other day and couldn’t help but buy the biggest bag of Snickers there. I freeze them and only try and have 1 or 2 a day but usually it turns into 3 or 4.. There the fun size, that’s what I tell myself to feel better..It’s my inner fatty!  This weekend is Halloween weekend and it's a big thing out here.. Waikiki has a bunch of parties going down, thinkin I'm gunna stay local and go to a house party with some friends I met..  Things are going really well, it's so pretty I find something new and amazing every day, definitely blessed and thankful that I'm here, happy and healthy!  O ya, I am officially substitute teaching certified.. Can't wait to start! Happy Halloween, I'll post pics soon!.. Aloohaaasss, fordaboyz DUH

Aloha Friday

I'm enjoying each day here on the North Shore!  I had a great day laying on the beach, it started pouring rain but I loved every minute of it.. People probably thought I was crazy , as I continued to jam out and read my book (Rise and Fall of Mark Occhilupo).  I went to the local fruit stand and stocked up on all the island's best fruits (papaya, passion fruit) and then went on an amazing run! Feeling pumped! There are such pretty sunsets every night it's unreal. I attempted to make taco salad and drank beers in the process.. Missin my girls tonight,  Aloha Friday!<3

The Bus

I could go on and on about how much I really really hate the bus!!! It's freezing and I feel like a layer of grim clings to my body every time I take it.. Today I almost started crying because this man peed his pants next to me and he smelt sooo bad!! It sounds funny but at the time I was appalled.. There are definitely a lot of homeless people here which is sad, but I mean if I was homeless I would probably live in Hawaii too..With the way my jobs going, looks like I’ll be joining them shortly! JUSSTT KIDDDINGG.. But just as I was getting so uncomfortable the most adorable little north shore local boy sat next to me and was cracking me up the rest of the way home..I've seen him on the bus before, so it was nice to see a familiar hommie. I get along really well with kids for some reason.. As I was coming close to my stop the most beautiful pink sunset was setting on the horizon.. I tried to take a pic but all I got was the reflection from the window.. Instead I snapped this photo.. I couldn’t resist, this lady jumped head first into the trash can.. This was right before.. She came out with a Starbucks cup and was stoked.. Shootzzz! Enjoy much love and Shakas, xo

First month on the North Shore!

I have been on the North Shore of Oahu for exactly one month as of tomorrow! I can't believe it.. My life has changed in so many ways and my experience here thus far has been a mix of emotions.. I still can't believe the breathtaking view I wake up to every morning, and the path I run on which is canopied by lush tropical plants and plumerias right alongside the sand.. The air always smells so good, so fresh and warm.  Recently I have been feeling a bit homesick, but I know each day will get better and new opportunities will arise.   I have definitely been humbled in so many ways, from the 3 hour bus ride into Waikiki for work with locals that talk to themselves and have no teeth(They're people too, I know Mom!), to chatting with some of the most influential wise people that I know I was supposed to meet :o).  I think good things are going to happen out here!! I've decided to create this blog to keep all my family and friends up to date with photos and my adventure! It gives me a creative way to fill everyone in and keep a journal of my feelings as well. Please feel free to live vicariously through me, because I know a lot of you want to be right by my side and I wish you were! Aloha for now! Love and kisses sent your way! Miss xo
